5 Skincare Mistakes to break for summer!

by Editor in Chief

Skipping a few hours of sleep, forgetting to wash your face before bed, not apply sunscreen everyday all seem so innocent right? But odds are, at least one of these habits in your daily routine are the cause of those dreadful breakouts, crow’s feet and flakey or discolored skin. Fortunately, the fixes are simple! By nixing these everyday habits you can take years off your complexion, and leave skin protected, balanced and refreshed:

·         Mistake #1: Forgetting Sunscreen. We know, we know – you hear this a million times but 90% of premature skin aging and discoloration is caused by exposure to sunlight! Applying sunscreen daily is the easiest way to prevent sun damage, protect your skin, and not to mention - look younger. Try using products that offer Broad-Spectrum (UVA and UVB) protection, an SPF of 30 or greater, and are water resistant.

·         Mistake #2: Applying Makeup with Dirty Brushes. This may seem innocent, but applying makeup with the same brush month after month causes dirt and bacteria to buildup which can lead to breakouts. It’s important you wash brushes every two to three weeks. An easy DIY quick fix is to mix a couple of drops of gentle facial cleanser or shampoo with lukewarm water in a cup. Then swish your brushes around, rinse with lukewarm water, pat dry, and lay flat on a clean towel to air dry.

·         Mistake #3: Skimping on Sleep. Your skin and body go into repair mode when asleep. This is why sticking to a regular sleeping routine will not only keep you well rested, but will help to renew and regenerate new skin cells. For an extra boost, try incorporating just a glass a day of soy milk into your daily routine as this can help improve the structure and firmness of your skin, as well as soften those crow’s feet.

o    Mistake #4: Not Cleansing Daily. Going to bed without washing your face is one of the biggest skin care no-no’s. Leaving makeup and dirt on skin doesn’t just clog pores and cause breakouts, it can also lead to excessive dryness and even skin dandruff. To clear out the gunk without drying out skin, opt for a soap-free cleanser like Sebamed Clear Face Cleansing Foam and start cleansing on a daily basis! The cleanser is soap and alkali-free wash that gently cleanses pores to eliminate pimples and blackheads, with a coconut oil-based antibacterial active ingredient that removes bacteria to prevent the formation of new pimples. ·         Mistake #5: Waiting To Moisturize. Most creams and lotions have key ingredients that create a protective barrier on the surface of the skin to lock in moisture to maintain a healthy pH balance of 5.5. For optimum moisture, slather on Sebamed Moisturizing Face Cream immediately after cleansing or a hot shower, before the skin cools and your pores begin to close ($19.95 at SebamedUSA.com).

eos Lip Balm #TriedItSeries

by Editor in Chief

FTC: The following products were sent to CurlyGirlBeauty for free in exchange for consideration. The following photos & words are those of CurlyGirlBeauty.org

I love lip-balms, I was happy to work with eos lip-balms again when they asked to send me a couple lip balms to use and showcase.

eos lip-balms are available at just about any major retailer, grocery stores, drugstores and of course on line.  It has been a while since I last used eos so I was surprised to see that they have "Medicated" lip balms now.

I got 2 lip-balms in , 1 Strawberry Sorbet and the 2nd a Medicated one  in "Tangerine"  I gave the strawberry to a coworker and the Tangerine I have been using myself. It coats your lips with a nice thick layer. It has a nice smell and light taste and I have been using it daily to soothe my lips.  Besides being fun to look at, they do seem to do the simple job.

I will say that they don't last long, but if your looking for a simple fun lip balm then I would recommended you try out eos lip balms.

Product: eos lip balms

Price: $2.99

Where to buy: Major drugstores,

My Life Isn't just playing with Beauty Products - #RealAmericanBlogger

by Editor in Chief

There is a hashtag going around inspired by a documentary film by film maker Chris Wiegand called Real American Blogger .  It has spawned some very interesting tweets and also some real truths.  When your a blogger, life isn't all soft light & perfectly placed products, a set time schedule for blogging and money coming in.  Its hard.  Its frustrating, its your blood, sweat & tears.  Literally.

Is this spawning a series on this blog? I would say so.  After about 4 years of blogging ( yes its been that long ) I am realizing that many readers think a bloggers life is ... well .... perfect? I have to say that yes as a blogger myself there have been times that I will read a blog and think the same way. You see the pictures and go " well jeez, my pictures don't look that way, " or " her life is so amazing and perfect" .  When the truth is that the blogger is sitting behind a desk for 4-8 or more hours, editing her or his heart out, writing, proofreading, social networking the hell outta the fingers till their eyes get tired and go to sleep at 4 am.  We have to GET.REAL.

We don't discuss the hundreds of pictures in 1000 positions we place the product or ourselves to get that one "money shot" that is going to look great on the blog & all social media accounts.  Yep, you be surprised how much work goes into writing a post.  But why do we do it? Because we freaking love it. This crazy shit is our passion and also income.  But we love it, so like a crack feen we keep coming back to it.  Day after night after week after year,

My life isn't all about playing with beauty products.  Ive gotten so many comments " girl it must be so cool, getting free stuff & getting paid to play with products" yea...... sometimes, there is fun involved of opening that box and seeing what the company sent you and then playing with it.  Getting expensive  products that you know you wouldn't otherwise buy or even having no guilt on throwing a product you hate away because you know you didn't buy it.

Then there is the time of negotiating with the company before they send you the product, making sure you two are on the same terms.  deciding if what they are giving you is worth all the work your about to put in. Getting the product and then setting up to take a hundred pictures most of which you will delete to get that "One" then writing up a post, that is accurate, detailed, informative, non boring & most of all honest, but can you be too honest? because if you are and its bad then the company will email you and ask you to change some words. Then you have to decide to do it and change what you really think of the product or don't do it and email the company and tell them that's its your words and take or leave it & kick rocks ( no kidding, but hey you may have too)

Not to mention that most of the time you feel you are getting little in return for all the work you do. The company will have a life time of free advertisement on your blog because of your post.  Yup its all flowers & giggles.

What is my reality?  well here it is.. I work full-time at night, I am home during the day which includes taking care of my house and trying to sleep in between somewhere ,not to mention I am a  full time college student and did I mention I also run my own business & I am planning a full on wedding? All this while writing my heart out till my fingers are sore to get posts out to you guys ( see my dedication?)  and getting paid sometimes and often not. Thats  my reality....

Yes there is a fun part of getting stuff for nothing and doing what you love but then there is the ugly part..  Like I Said my life isn't just playing with beauty products.

To Be Continued.....
